Full-time clinical and medical director positions are available.
The VA Boston Healthcare Systems (VABHS) seeks enthusiastic internists with a passion for medical education at our West Roxbury, Jamaica Plain and Greater Boston locations. Candidates will provide longitudinal care to a panel of medically complex and diverse patients and be able to precept house staff and medical students. Prior expertise in medical education is preferred. Candidates should also be experienced with population management, evidence-based guidelines, and adult learning principles.
Medical Director: Supervises approximately 10 physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. They work as a member of the practice leadership team to manage the clinic operations and lead quality improvement initiatives.
Primary Care Physician: Manages a panel size of approximately 1,250 male or female patients per full-time physician with 60-minute appointment lengths for new patients and 30-minutes for all other appointments. Telephone and video care are supported. Each physician is teamed with an RN, clinical associate, and scheduler. The physician serves as collaborating physician for NP/PAs. There is no call, and no weekend or holiday duty.
Known for delivering high quality, evidence-based care within a culture of continuous improvement, the VA utilizes a national electronic medical record. The Primary Care Service is leading the VAs initiative in the Whole Health System of care that includes conventional treatment with a focus on self-empowerment, self-healing, and self-care. The Whole Health System approach is informed by evidence-based research and makes use of all appropriate therapeutic approaches and disciplines to achieve optimal health and healing.
VABHS offers teaching opportunities for both medical students and medical residents in the inpatient and outpatient arenas. Academic appointment will be commensurate with accomplishments at the Instructor or Assistant Professor level at Harvard Medical School or Boston University School of Medicine. Requirements: U.S. citizenship, a full and unrestricted US medical license on the effective date of hire due to certain state requirements, and board certification in internal medicine.

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of your start date. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
