The University of Arkansas for the Medical Sciences (UAMS) in Little Rock, Arkansas invites applications and nominations for the position of Professor and Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine. This is an extraordinary opportunity to build a world-class department both academically and clinically and to build an Internal Medicine program that meets the needs of the entire State of Arkansas and the region. The Department Chair, Internal Medicine reports to the Dean of UAMS College of Medicine and is expected to provide strategic vision for the Department's education, research, clinical care, and training programs. The incoming Chair will have exceptional communication skills, financial acumen, and a clear vision for advancing the academic mission in the midst of a changing healthcare and education landscape. As the state's only academic medical center, the College of Medicine has held a unique and vital role in Arkansas for more than 130 years. The College is part of a distinguished, comprehensive academic health sciences center comprising five colleges, a graduate school, seven highly regarded institutes, eight Regional Centers, and a comprehensive Medical Center. The largest Department within UAMS, the incoming Chair, will serve as a key strategic advisor for all three missions – clinical, research, and education across the state, partnering with UAMS Health System and Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare. Candidates must possess an M.D., M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent degree and board certification. The successful candidate must also demonstrate: 1) progressive administrative leadership experience in an integrated academic medical center environment, 2) national recognition for achievement in research, educational and clinical pursuits that would warrant appointment as a faculty member at the professorial rank, and 3) the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in the Department and across multiple disciplines.
