ChristianaCare is currently looking for a Physician Assistant to join our Cardiovascular Surgery Team. The selected candidate will perform cardio-thoracic patient care management and assistance in the operating room functioning under the cardio-thoracic surgeon. Christiana Care's Cardiovascular Surgery program is one of the top in the nation and continues to grow! With four cardiovascular surgeons on staff, we perform close to 800 cardiovascular surgeries each year. Our PAs provide all aspects of perioperative care to patients as part of the eight member Advanced Practice Provider team.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include providing specialized intraoperative clinical assistance for open heart cases, including endoscopic vein and radial artery harvesting, and first assisting the CV Surgeon in the OR for all cases which include Aortic surgeries, TEVAR, ECMO, CABG, Valves, TAVR, and VADS . The Physician Assistant also provides exceptional critical care management for patients in the ICU and Stepdown floors and provides pre- and post-operative care in the outpatient setting. The hours are Monday through Friday day shift, with a 1:7 rotation to cover evenings & weekends.

- Perform endoscopic vein harvest. Endoscopic radial artery harvest experience is a plus.

- Assist cardio-thoracic surgeon in operating room procedures.
- Conduct history and physical examinations.
- Perform consultations.
- Perioperative patient management including ICU and step-down management.
- Postoperative office patient management.
- Educate and counsel patients and patient families on health and disease

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Certified or eligible for certification by National Commission of Physician Assistants.

DEA Licensure or eligible for licensure

Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program

Current certification as a PA by NCCPA

Licensure in the State of DE or eligible for licensure

At least two years of cardiac surgery experience preferred
