Geisinger is seeking a Board Eligible/ Board Certified Fellowship trained Surgeon for its health delivery system.
Geisinger is one of the nation's largest health service organizations serving patients throughout Pennsylvania. The current practice group is experienced, highly collaborative and focused on “value-based” care. This position represents a unique opportunity to join an integrated practice of surgeons, APs and nurse specialists.
- This position is located at Geisinger Medical Center (GMC) in Danville, Pennsylvania
- This is a unique specialty practice in Minimally Invasive Bariatric and Esophageal surgery. The scope of practice includes:
- High volume bariatric and benign esophageal surgery
- Collaborative practice with our Geisinger Nutrition and Weight Management Program
- Access to robotic platforms
- Advanced endoscopic foregut interventional procedures, including POEM
- Collaboration with the Geisinger Obesity Research Institute
- The applicant must have an interest in resident and fellow education as well as clinical outcomes research. Robust analytic resources are shared with the Geisinger Obesity Research Institute
- The position provides a leadership opportunity in clinical innovation within the Division of Bariatric and Foregut Surgery
- Specialty-only Call is shared within the practice group at Geisinger Medical Center

Position Details
- The surgeon specializes in performing gastric bypass surgery, generally treatment for obesity. The surgeon provides preoperative, operative and postoperative care to surgical patients. At least 50% of time is spent in the bariatric practice.Interviews patients to obtain information such as symptoms, medical histories, and family histories. Performs and/or interprets diagnostic tests as needed.
- Diagnose and design a plan of treatment for injuries and/or illness. May prescribe or administer medications. Prepares, maintains, and reviews records that include patients' histories, examination findings, treatment plans, or outcomes.
- Work is typically performed in a clinical and office environment. Accountable for satisfying all job specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.
