Inova L.J Murphy Children's Hospital is seeking candidates for the position of Medical Director, Pediatric
Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. Candidates are preferred to be board certified in Pediatric Cardiology and
Pediatric Critical Care; although, certification in one of these areas with additional experience in
Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care should also apply. Applicants should be eligible for licensure in the State of
Virginia. Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of clinical experience.

The Medical Director of the Pediatric Cardiac ICU will possess both strong clinical and leadership skills.
He/she will have direct oversight of the clinical care provided within the Pediatric Cardiac ICU. The
position will not only be responsible for the CICU, but will also coordinate with the Pediatric Intensive
Care Unit Medical Director where appropriate. He/she will additionally serve as a leader within the stepdown
unit. This individual will serve as the direct supervisor of the cardiac intensive care unit physicians,
as well as the pediatric cardiac critical care nurse practitioners. This individual will report to the
Chairman of Pediatrics with additional reporting to the Co-Directors of the Pediatric Heart Program.
Scholarly and research interests are highly desirable, as is teaching experience. Faculty positions within
affiliated teaching institutions will also be included in the role.

Surgery, the Congenital Heart Program at Inova Children's Hospital has been caring for the children of
Northern Virginia and the Greater Washington Region for more than 25 years. Each year, the program is
responsible for more than 550 procedures. In addition to providing care for children with complex
congenital anomalies, the program is able to provide a lifetime of care as part of the Inova Heart and
Vascular Institute, which includes the Adult Congenital Program. Inova Children's Hospital consistently
outperforms national benchmarks in surgical survival, surgical site infections, and hospital acquired
infections. The cardiac ICU is an 8 bed CICU, expanding to a 12 bed CICU in 2022 and in addition has a
22-bed step down unit. The Director of the Cardiac ICU will report to both the Chair of Pediatrics as well
as the Co-Directors of the Heart Center.
