Research Assistant I - Allergy and Pulmonary

Job Summary:

Provide, under direct supervision, support for specified research projects; collect, assess, and communicate data/results. Assist in general laboratory operation, maintenance, and inventory. Adhere to HIPPA compliance regulations for participants recruited into studies.

Key responsibilities:

• Basic Mammalian cell culture techniques
• T cell and dendritic cell culture
• Tissue sample processing
• Animal handling and procedures
• Mouse breeding and genotyping
• Data processing
• Basic laboratory techniques including: RNA extraction, PCR, real-time PCR, immunohistochemistry, Western blotting, ELISA, electrophoresis

Expectations:

1. 1. Team player
   2. Be diligent, contentious worker who documents procedures and is able to follow a protocol
   3. Able to follow directions/protocols
   4. Comfortable asking for clarification and direction if needed
   5. Able to multi-task and have good time management skills
   6. Willing and able to handle mice and conduct experiments using animal models
   7. Comfortable in handling human blood samples and able to adhere to HIPAA guidelines
   8. Understanding of basic chemistry principles (how to make up solutions, pH solutions, safety associated with organic solutions and acid/bases).
   9. Willing to learn multiple assays (ELISAs, westerns, RNA extraction, cDNA generation, real-time PCR, flow cytometry staining, isolation of T cells from humans and mice)
   10. Comfortable with using Excel, Powerpoint, and Word
   11. Be here from 8:00 or 8:30 until 4:30 or 5pm Monday through Friday

Major Projects ongoing in lab:

1. 1. 1. Understanding mechanisms associated with airway inflammation and airway constriction during allergic responses
      2. Understanding how T cell subsets are regulated by metabolic pathways, alarmin proteins (IL-33, TSLP), and sex hormone signaling.
