Pediatric Psychologist
With a focus on Pediatric Nephrology & Dialysis and Inpatient Consultation/Liaison
  The Division of Pediatric Psychiatry and Psychology in the Department of Pediatrics at Akron Children's Hospital is pleased to announce an immediate opening for a pediatric psychologist to join our expanding group. The selected candidate will divide their time between the Division of Pediatric Nephrology and providing coverage of our Inpatient Consultation/Liaison service. Strong collaboration skills for working with physicians, nurses, social workers and other health care professionals are essential.
Pediatric Nephrology Psychology Service: This position offers the opportunity to expand upon an existing service. The psychologist within the Division of Pediatric Nephrology would provide integrated, evidenced-based behavioral health intervention in inpatient and outpatient settings to patients ages 0-21 years old with congenital or acquired kidney or urinary tract disease. Common referrals include adjustment to medical condition, pain coping/ management, adjustment to dialysis, self-management/ adherence, support for behavioral/ lifestyle modifications, and pre- and post-kidney transplant evaluation and intervention. Additionally, this position will serve Vasculitis Clinic, a collaboration between Pediatric Nephrology and Rheumatology. Opportunities for program development and research are available.
Inpatient Consultation/Liaison Psychology Service: In this role, the psychologist would lead a team of trainees (two fellows and 1 practicum student) in providing coverage of the inpatient consultation/liaison service during business hours, Monday-Friday. The consult service provides evidenced based psychological assessment and treatment to youth admitted to our general medical floors. Common referrals including Medically Unexplained Physical Symptoms, Pain Coping/Management, adjustment to medical condition, self-management and adherence interventions.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with youth who have chronic medical conditions. Previous experience in providing coverage of an inpatient Consultation/Liaison service in a pediatric medical center is a requirement.
This position offers opportunities for collaboration with physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals as members of the multidisciplinary team. Supervision, teaching and training of postdoctoral psychology students and psychology practicum students will be a primary responsibility of this position. Opportunities for research are also available and supported.
Requirements include a doctorate degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in clinical psychology (child or pediatric emphasis preferred) from an APA-accredited doctoral program, completion of an APA-accredited internship (child or pediatric emphasis preferred), license eligibility in the State of Ohio, and a strong interest in evidence based pediatric psychology. Applicants who completed a post-doctoral fellowship in pediatric psychology are preferred.
