ChristianaCare is currently recruiting for a Nurse Practitioner to work in the Cardiac Surgery Professional Services. This is a full-time position that promotes a work/life balance. Position consists of 4 10hr shifts per week covering stepdown, rotating weekend stepdown coverage (every 3rd weekend), and ICU coverage overnight once every other week.
As Cardiac Surgery Nurse Practitioner your duties and responsibilities include:
Facilitates a strong consistent nursing presence in all phases of patient illnesses.
Reviews and retrieves data pertinent to patient's medical history.
Performs and records physical assessment in response to consult and collaborates with physicians and other members of the medical staff.
Screens patient to determine need for urgent medical attention.
Prepares patients preoperatively for surgery.
Evaluates need to changes in patient therapy.
Writes orders and modifies treatment plans.
Assesses surgical sites including dressing changes, staple removal or suture removal.
Removes drains, pacemaker wires and chest tubes.
Initiates daily post-operative patient care management, writing daily critical care progress notes.
Prescribes medication with credentials provided by the Joint Practice Committee of the Delaware Board of Medical Practice.
Provides education and instruction to patients regarding care and disease.
Plans appropriate discharge plans
Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
Performs other related duties as required.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Master's degree as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
One year of cardiac surgery experience preferred.
Licensure or license eligible in the state of Delaware
Prescriptive authority required.
Apply for and receive DEA number to prescribe controlled substances.
BLS & ACLS required.
