St. Josephs Health has an excellent full-time employment opportunity for a Board Certified or Board Eligible General Surgeon to join a full spectrum practice located in Syracuse, New York.

St. Josephs Physicians (the employed medical group division) is a well-established multi-specialty group with over 160 physicians and a very strong primary care referral base.

The General Surgery Department currently consists of five General Surgeons. The surgeons perform most surgeries at either the local hospital (St. Josephs Hospital) or the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) located about 15 minutes away from the hospital campus. There are two General Surgery office locations in the Syracuse area. The General Surgeons are supported by a 24/7/365 in-house team of surgical APPs. Call is currently 1:5 but will decrease to 1:6 when a new surgeon joins the group.

Job duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Evaluates patients. In doing so, reviews and interprets patients health history, conducts physical exam, and reviews laboratory, x-ray, and other test reports to determine diagnosis.
• Based on results of patients evaluation, develops, and implements treatment plan and provides education to patients.
• Performs surgical procedures.
• Evaluates hospitalized patient during preop and postop period, monitors progress, and releases patient from hospital.
• Recognizes abnormal patient responses to treatment, surgery and/or medication and implements corrective actions as appropriate.
• Documents all aspects of care provided. Completes paperwork necessary to assure payment for services rendered.
• Participates in the call coverage as assigned.
• Maintains knowledge of trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate articles, journals, and related material, and by attending seminars, conferences and so forth.
