The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC) and the Department of Internal Medicine and the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Iowa Health Care are recruiting a full-time faculty member to be the Director of the Adult Hospitalist Program. The ideal candidate will have an excellent record of experience in clinical program development and in scholarship, leadership, and mentorship in an academic environment. The candidate must be qualified for appointment at the Associate Professor or Full Professor rank. The Director should be dedicated to delivering high-value, multidisciplinary hospitalist care in the inpatient setting. Desirable qualifications include formal training and/or accomplishments in quality improvement, medical education, or healthcare delivery. Previous clinical leadership experience in an academic are highly desired. Specific minimum requirements include an MD or equivalent degree, BC/BE in Internal Medicine and/or Hospital Medicine, Iowa State licensure or eligibility, and authorization to work in the U.S.
The mission of the University of Iowa Adult Hospitalist Program is to provide the highest quality healthcare for adult patients. The faculty of Adult Hospitalist Program care for the majority of patients within our hospital. The Director has a matrix reporting structure . The Director reports to the Chief Medical Offer for program operations, budgetary oversight and strategic plans for the hospitalist program. The Director reports to the Director of the Division of General Internal Medicine academic and professional recruiting, retention and development of the faculty and operations as it aligns with the Department of Medicine. The Director is a valued leader within hospital and departmental leadership. The Director will be expected to innovate, plan and implement in processes of care, outcomes, and resource utilization. This Director oversees a core group of hospitalist leaders in diverse roles throughout the hospital and the program. As an academic leader, the Director will serve as a role model and mentor for the faculty hospitalists and contribute to the scholarly and teaching efforts of the Department. The director will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to promoting a diverse environment.
The University of Iowa Adult Hospitalist Program is staffed by more than 50 General Internists and 15 Advanced Practice Providers. Hospitalist faculty directly participate in the care a large portion of all adult patients admitted to the 841-bed UIHC facility. Board- certified/eligible physician with at least 7 years of clinical experience (MD or DO) is required.
Eligibility for a faculty appointment in the Carver College of Medicine at the rank of associate or full professor on the clinical track?.
