The Department of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences at Wayne State University seeks a physician-scientist for a tenure track/ tenured position to enhance our clinical, research and teaching missions. The Department has been nationally ranked in the top 20 departments for NIH funding in each of the past five years and houses MetroNet, a practice-based research network. In addition, the Department is home to multiple educational and training programs, including a CEPH-accredited MPH program and three ACGME-accredited residency programs.
Protected time will be provided for research. Research responsibilities include developing an independent research program with relevance for the department’s mission such as health services research, comparative effectiveness trials, clinical or social epidemiology, disease prevention or health equity promotion. Successful candidates will be expected to obtain independent extramural funding and produce high-impact publications. Interdisciplinary scholarship is also valued. Departmental faculty collaborate with researchers with multiple other departments and centers across the Wayne State campus, including the NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center (Karmanos Cancer Institute), the NIEHS-funded Center for Urban Responses to Environmental Stressors, the NIMHD-funded Center for Multiple Chronic Diseases, and others.
Applicants must be board-certified primary care physicians (e.g. physicians in the field of family medicine, general internal medicine, preventive medicine) fully licensed or eligible for medical license to practice in Michigan. Clinical responsibilities will include providing outpatient care in one of the Department’s clinical sites which include both urban and suburban practice locations. Opportunities to teach both undergraduate and graduate medical trainees are available, in the Department’s three residency programs (Family Medicine including an Urban Track, Transitional Year, and Preventive Medicine).
